Sam Palmer achieved his 1000 run target for the season on Sunday in a knock of 37 in Ashton's win over Old Eastonians on Sunday 21st August. Sam is the first batsman to this millennium to make 1000 runs in a season.

2011 Warwick Tour

The date was Saturday the 25th of July the clock read 11:00am and Ashton Wold Cricket Club were meeting for their first tour in almost 20 years. Destination Warwick and Leamington Spa, where the plan for the weekend was to Smash Runs, Smash Wickets and Smash Beers.
The tour party consisted of Dan Blatch, Mark Buckley, Richard Awdry, Chris White, Harry Chapman, Doug Heath, Jack Allan, Sam Nowlan, Chris Wood, Jack Duncan, Sam Palmer and Casper.

After some interesting detours from Dan let’s turn left Blatch and Richard I can’t read the sign Awdry we arrived at the ground.
Our first game was against Bishop Tatchbrook XI which was held in the fantastic surroundings of Warwick school a setting which far eclipsed the talent on show. Ashton won the toss and captain Mark Buckley finally saw the chance to smash through the 20 barrier decided to bat first on what can only be described as a road of a wicket. Opening the batting were Harry Chapman and Mark (you take the first ball) Buckley. Ashton got off to a fast start, which almost never happens with Chapman opening,they lost their first wicket Buckley for 19 missing out on the 20 milestone once more!! Buckley had not been struggling with foot movement until that point but after middling it to the keeper his feet seemed to stop working and stood his ground. Ashton’s resident Umpire Jack Allen had little choice but to send the skipper on his way. Chapman was joined at the crease by Sam Palmer who up until this game had been in sparkling form but he went cheaply for only 8 runs. He was bowled by a ball that was a straight as an arrow but this dismissal had very little to do with the ball more the ugly heave and the shut eyes being displayed by the batsman. Unfortunately this would be the highlight Palmer’s day. Nowlan then joined Chapman at the crease and they proceeded to stylishly take the game away from the opposition with a mixture of power hitting from Nowlan and classy cover drives from Chapman as well as quick running between the wickets. Nowlan’s day had not begun particually well as his Mum had finally let him pack his own bag and once again he proved that task is too complex for him by leaving his whites at home. But he made an amends for this but scoring 54 but then had a huge brain freeze and left a ball that hit his leg stump. This brought the littlest hobo Dan Blatch to the crease to join Chapman. This was a short lived partnership as Chapman was quickly on his way back to the pavilion after facing the best ball of the day and being caught at point for what would be the highest score of the day of 65. Blatch was joined by Chris Wood which I believe if the most beardy partnership to have ever batted for Ashton. Some very impressive hitting from both Blatch and Wood meant that both of them went on to score 50s. A special mention to Wood for scoring his first 50 and hitting his first 6 of the year, the only other batsman to do that for Ashton was Blatch. Ashton ended up scoring 296 for 4 falling a few runs short of their highest ever score, I think at this point I should say that we would have scored way over 300 if Blatch could run between the stumps!!!
After tea Ashton opening bowlers of Chris 'the luck' White and Richard 'the talent' Awdry set about trying to make early inroads. Chris’s bowling was hostile and the gods were not smiling on him as the batsman soon discovered that Palmer was the fielder to aim at as he dropped his first catch of the day which came as a massive surprise but Chris kept smiling through the pain. To make matters worse for White, Jack Duncan Ashton’s wicket keeper dropped a simple edge spoiling an otherwise good day behind the stumps. Awdry was his normal self from the other end for that reason the captain decided it was time for a change and brought Doug Heath on. This proved to be a good move as he took the first wicket as the batsman played onto his stumps. Heath’s bowling was very impressive as the ball was swinging all over the place and he deserved more wickets than the one he ended up with. Chris was replaced by Jack I miss umpiring Allan. This lead to the next break through as Chapman caught a steepling catch on the boundary Palmer could only look on in envy. Jack then had another break through once again with the help of Chapman taking a one handed catch in the covers. Jack earned his wickets by bowling a tight line and length on a batting friendly pitch most of the time. Heath, Awdry and White probably didn’t see it in this way. There followed a long spell of batting resistance until captain Buckley had another master stroke and brought Blatch onto bowl. Blatch has recently stopped bowling at 20mph off his long run up and started bowling spin in an effort to reserve energy levels for the winter months. This change of action brought about some positive results he broke the batting partnership with a fierce leg spinning delivery. Shortly after that wicket Jack Teflon Duncan made up for his earlier drop by taking a sharp catch again off of Blatch’s bowling and that would prove to be the last wicket of the day, there could have been a couple of more but Palmer’s day went from bad to worst with a couple more drops of Chris 'chuckles' White, but that didn’t stop Ashton running out victors by approx.

For the night out the Ashton lads had brought their finest glad rags Jack Duncan looked sharp in a shirt and tie combo, Chapman was doning his spray on Jeans, Heath was brave choosing to wear some chinos but a special mention is reserved for Mark 'Stavros' Buckley who used the occasion to dress up as a Greek sex symbol. Unfortunately Ashton are not that much of a manly bunch and stuck mainly to drinking fruity cocktails like Woo Woos (Sam Nowlan idea of a good drink!!) and other multi colours drinks, despite that a good night was had by all we saw far too much of some people Casper(!) drank too much and dominated the local drinking holes.

The second day brought a hazy Ashton team to the home ground of Bishop Tatchbrook which was always going to be an anti-climax from the setting of the day before. One particular highlight was the dog turd smudged into a length on the wicket!!! This time Captain Blatch won the toss and put the home team into bat. This lead to Awdry proving the critics wrong and shunning his new name of Richard Ordinary ripping his way through the top order with a display of stunning bowling he took 3 wickets all bowled in next to no time putting them firmly on the rack. Perhaps real cricket pitches are too difficult for Richard to bowl on!! From the other end Heath was once again bowling a good line and length for very little luck he found the edge a few times and had a simple catch dropped by Chris 'Pestkins' Wood. After Heath finished his spell Blatch once again persisted with his comedy bowling this lead to him getting another two wickets both of them stunning catches from Chapman and Palmer making up for his bad day yesterday. Jack Allen picked up one more wicket for the weekend and this let Jack Duncan and Harry Chapman have a go at tail gunning. Jack Duncan picked up his first wicket for Ashton with a straight ball the surprised the batsman, from the other end Harry 'Swanny' Chapman picked up three wickets finishing off a good weekend for the breadless wonder!! One of the wickets was a good catch behind the stumps for Chris White who was deputising for Jack due to a bad shoulder.This good effort in the field reduce the opposition to 124 and the Ashton openers of Mark Buckley and Sam Palmer made short work of chasing it down. Palmer smashed a rapid 50 in his usual belligerent style, he then retired to let Casper thanks for coming …. Have a go and contributing more to the weekend than getting is nob out and eating a bible. Unfortunately the cricket part of the tour proved too difficult as he was dismissed for just 2 runs. Jack Duncan then strolled confidently to the crease to finish off the run chase with Buckley. Both Duncan and Buckley played confident shots including a wonderful pull shot from Buckley that helmet is obviously giving him more confidence(!) and ended up not out in the 20s. A special mention needs to go to Jack Duncan for making a late claim for arse of the weekend by leaving his wallet and phone in Harry’s car, but I am afraid the award has to go to Sam Nowlan for his inability to pack, leaving a straight ball and choosing the worse drinks in the world!!
For the Ashton Wold 2011 I would like to thank Dan Blatch for organising a very successful trip. Hopefully the 2012 tour will be as much fun and have the same mix of below par cricket talent, high quality banter and drinking.

"Another glorious defeat for English cricket?!"

Ashton Wold played 7, won 2. Finished 7th and therefore qualified for Spoon Final which was lost to Cluden CC - so another trophy won?!
Results hide the fact 3 games went down to the last ball - 2 we lost. Had we won them we would have been in the semi finals rather than the spoon.
We were one of the best bowling sides giving away very few wides and only got trashed a couple of times. What we lacked was one or two hitters - we just didn't get enough runs. Top run scorer was Lloyd with 74 in 6 innings. Second Stewart with 61 in 4 innings. Marcus got 37 in 5 innings, Nigel 29 in 5 innings and Gerald 23 in 4 innings.
Lloyd took 3 wickets, Gerald 2 and Nigel 1.
Stewart got 4 victims.
Our guest player, Doug Miller did well scoring 54 in 5 innings and taking 3 wickets.

All games played at the Drusit Hotel, Hua Hin - 8 Masters teams competing from Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong and England.

Ashton Wold Sunday Skipper Harry Chapman started the day badly by losing the toss on a really nice looking batting pitch so we started off in the field.
Lloyd and Matt opened the bowling and tested both of the opening batsmen by bowling accurately.
Yet again we had Ashton Wolds very own fielding version of Monty Panesar in the action again by dropping one of the openers at midwicket off Matts bowling again like he did the day previously. Although yesterday’s chance was a difficult one, this was just an easy one.
Matt decided to take a certain fielder out of the equation though and bowled out the opener 2 balls later for a well deserved wicket.
This first wicket while the score was on 27.
Lloyd was taken off for a rest after a brilliant spell and was replaced by sugar who did what he does best and kept it tight.
The no. 3 bat went for a wild slog and the ball went up and circled and swirled above Casper..... who defied all logic and held onto the catch to make up for the disappointment of earlier. The score was now 63 and after Matt had finished his spell and after a brief over from Chris White, who struggled bowling into the wind, Dan came on.
He got a wicket in his first over, he bowled the no.4 for 8 but throughout his spell he struggled into the wind and kept bowling short. Chris White relieved Sugar and took a wicket straight away to have the No.6 bowled for 1 to being the score to 130 and Dan was taken off and Sam Nowlan given a go into the wind. At this stage Braunstone were hitting quick runs to build a big target and sadly Young Sam bore the brunt of this. After Sam got a wicket in his first over caught by the safe hands of Mark Buckley at mid on the No.8 tore into the bowling and launched 3 sixes on the trott to finish 30 not out. Dan was brought on for the last over and went for a few runs but got a final wicket caught by the Ashton Wold debutant Ian White at square.
After some poor bowling the total was 203. Braunstones opening batsmen Bindley who fell at the end finished up on was well made 67.

After a nice tea the opening batsmen Mr Awdry and Peter Lucas walked out and tried to get us off to a good start.
Rich was run out from a direct hit from near the boundary, a brilliant throw for 1 run and this meant the Skipper Harry joined Pete very early in the innings. Braunstones opening bowlers Hartwell and Scrivens bowled a good line and length and the Ashton batsmen found runs hard to come by. Pete was bowled while the score was on 15 and this brought "The Don" as Mark likes to call himself to the crease. After a bowling change J.Suffolk bowled Harry with a low full toss for 6 and this left us at 27-3. Sam Nowlan and Mark set about rescuing the innings and after a few blows from Sam and Mark Sam was bowled again for 25 by J.Suffolk and we were looking bad at 75-4. Ashton Wold Debutant Ian strode to the crease for his first bat for a few years and made 5 before becoming Brownstone's slow bowlers first of four victims for 5.
This brought Dan to the crease who got off the mark straight away but he missed a full toss to be bowled for 4. In between the wickets falling Mark had taking a liking to the slow bowler and hit a total of 4 sixes all hit to the square boundary and reached a very well made 50. Unfortunately Mark missed a ball which bounced twice from the same bowler who he hit for the sixes and was bowled for 59 to leave the score 127-7.
Lloyd and Chris tried to keep the team in the hunt but wickets kept falling, Lloyd first for 1 and then Matt for 3 and then Chris fell to end the game for 5 and the Ashton score was 140. Disappointing score on a good wicket so we will have to make sure we bat and bowl better next weekend.

Ashton Wold C.C v Tolethorpe Park C.C Saturday 2nd May 2009

Mark won the toss and elected to field first on a nice sunny day for our first game.
Chris White and debutant Matt Gunnell opened the bowling & immediately Ashton Wolds very own Comedy act in the field was straight into action. The batsmen hit a full ball from Matt and it flew towards cover, Dan "Casper" Blatch had a dive and amazed everyone at even attempting to catch it one handed but unfortunately was unable to hold onto the ball much to the expectation to his fellow team members but stopped fours runs.
The opening bowlers bowled well and kept the batmen quiet and the first wicket didn't fall until Lloyd Papworth came on and bowled Fytche with one that kept a little low for 8 runs, Dan came on next and had the other opener Brown caught at cover for 23. Both Lloyd and Dan kept up the tight bowling that Chris and Matt had started and the Tolethorpe batsmen were finding it hard to get away.
After another bowling change John "Sugar" Ray and Sam Palmer came on and continued the good work. Sugar has the no.4 McQuitty caught by Lloyd for 14. The quicker bowlers came back on and Chris White had Parr stumped by Our back up keeper Mr Nowlan. Shortly after the no.3 batsmen hit his fifty Matt bowled him for 51 to get his first wicket for Ashton Wold CC. After a 2 big blows for 4 and 6 by J.Sewell. Tolethorpe finished their 40 overs on 152-5.

After the innings break Rich Awdry and Marcus Papworth opened the batting. Rich scored 9 runs in the first over but then the runs dried up for a few overs as the Tolethorpe bowlers bowled well and put pressure on the Ashton batsmen.
Marcus And Rich both offered catches for 2 & 12 respectively and this put Mark Buckley and Sam Palmer at the crease.
Mark was bowled for 4 by one that kept low and Sam played on for 2 which put us 27-4.
Sam Nowlan and Jeremy Firth the next pair of batsmen set about pulling the team back into the game. They batted well against some good bowling and got their eyes in before setting out for runs. Sam hit Ashton Wolds first 6 this season and when the score was on 97 Jeremy was bowled for 18. This brought Dan Blatch to the crease. Shortly after Sam Skied one and was caught for a very well made 34. Dan and new batsmen Lloyd knocked it around and edged closer to the target. On 130 Dan was given the dreaded finger LBW for 12 and Chris White joined Lloyd. Lloyd was bowled for 15 10 runs later and this brought Matt to the crease to find 13 runs with Chris. Chris then left last wicket pair Matt and Sugar to get the 13 runs by chasing a wide one and getting caught behind.
But Matt and Sugar saw us to the end by hitting singles and twos and got us to victory with 2 balls to spare.

Everyone enjoyed themselves and like the food. Thanks to The George at Oundle for letting us take over the majority of the pub and for supplying us with the lovely food.

Ashton lost the toss and were put into bat.

Opening the batting was the partnership of C. Evans and R. Awdry, both players got off to a slow but steady start making a partnership of 51 before Richard was caught for 25 off the bowling of J. Cogan. Richard was out in the 18th over. The new batsman in was S. Nowlan, between Sam and Clive they pushed the score on to 98 before Sam was bowled by Packer for 26. M. Papworth now joined Clive in the middle but just a few overs later Clive was caught for 40 off the bowling of Roe with the score at 109 off 30 overs. Marcus was then run out for 12 with just 7 more runs added since Clive's departure. The score at 116 for 4. C. White joined Melvin in the middle with just 7 overs remaining. Melvin was then caught 4 balls into the last over for 9. Chris was joined by J. Green for the last two balls. Chris White finished on 25 not out and Jamie finished on 0 not out. Total 153 for 5 off 40 overs.

Southwick opened their innings with R. Fox and S. Fox. S fox was bowled by the first ball of the third over for 1 by C. Wood. C. White then picked up the wicket of G. Palmer caught by L. Papworth for 4. The score now at 13 for 2 off 6 overs. N. Barnes then came into the bowling attack and bowled the opening batsman R. Fox for 10. L. Papworth picked up his first wicket of the day, the wicket of J. Brackely was caught by C. White for just 2 runs. R. Head was batting well and hitting runs fairly freely. off everyone other then N. Barnes who finished his 8 over taking just the one wicket but only went for 8 runs. J. Ray bowled well but failed to pick up a wicket, he dropped two catches off his own bowling. K. McMahon was Lloyd's second victim who was bowled for 0 and P. Shacklock was Lloyd's third wicket and again was bowled for 0. J. Green came into the attack and picked up the wicket of P. Roe who was out LBW for 9. C. White and C. Wood came back into the attack and Chris White picked up the wicket of J. Cogan bowled for 5. R. Head finished on 49 not out and G. Shacklock 4 not out. Ashton lost toss and were made to field.
Opening the bowling was C. Wood and L. Papworth, both bowled well and Chris picked up the wickets of the two opening batsmen T. Coley 1 and G. Schanschieff 3 both bowled. A change of bowling was made and N. Barnes replaced C. Wood and C. White replaced L. Papworth. The batsmen went after Nigel's bowling and hit him for a few runs. He took a good catch off his own bowling to dismiss D. Rees for 5 and R. Barlow was caught behind off of Nigel's bowling by the wicket keeper H. Williams for 1. Chris White picked up the wicket of N. Schanschieff bowled for 51. D. Blatch also came into the bowling attack to replace N. Barnes whilst C. White bowled his 8 overs straight through. Dan picked up the wickets of R. Phipps who was caught on the boundary by S. Nowlan for 16 and J. Jarvis had taken a liking to Dan's bowling, scoring freely but Dan finally had his revenge and bowled him for 74. L. Papworth and C. Wood returned to the action to finish off the overs. Final score 179 for 7 off 40 overs.

After tea H. Chapman (cpt) and R. Awdry opened the batting. Richard got off to a good start racing along to 18 before he was caught and bowled by R. Phipps, the score at 31 for 1. S. Nowlan was the next batsman in but didn't last too long before he was given out LBW to a ball that kept low bowled by R. Phipps. M. Buckley was the new batsman, but unfortunately he didn't last long and was caught for 1 by Price bowled by Hammerton. Mean while Harry had been steady keeping the score ticking along. With M. Papworth coming the crease the score was at 54 for 3. Marcus and Harry kept things going and pushed the score along to 94 before M. Papworth was run out for 10. D. Blatch was the new man in and survived until the score reached 111 and was caught for 3 by R. Phipps and bowled by N. Schanshieff. C. White was the new batsman and with just 12 overs left Ashton required 69 runs for the win. Harry Chapman and Chris White saw the game to its conclusion reaching the require total of 180 to win with 10 balls remaining of the game. Harry finished on 67 not out and Chris made 47 not out (a new personal best) from 39 balls. Total score 180 for 5 off 38.2 overs.

It rained so the pitch was a pudding and the 1st round of games were cancelled.
Ashton's 1st game was against a team of chaps in Jeans so we didn't think they'd be that good.
Due to the extras every bowler gave in their only over the Rutland Stone team made 47.
We got wickets but let ourselves down due to the extras every bowler bowled. A determined Dan Blatch & Sam Palmer set about regaining some pride and hit the 47 required in 2.3 overs. Dan hit 2 straight Sixes in his score of 26 and Sam hit some nice shots for his 11.
We certainly made a statement with our batting. So an easy win in the end.

Next game was against last years champions The Easton Big Dogs.
Sam Palmer opened with Chris White. Sam got into double figures before he was out, Sam Nowlan replaced him, he and Chris White got us up to around 49 which we didn't think was enough. We didn't hit enough boundaries and had a few dot balls. Sam Nowlan was playing for a draw and left a delivery for reasons best known to him!
Palmer opened the bowling and bowled amazing going for less than a run a ball.
Nowlan bowled next and bowled another great over. Blatch bowled 3rd and bowled a fairly tight over. Both Wood and White bowled well. Wood giving away the only extras of the innings. Everyone bowled much better than before. They were many a run shot. At least 15 or so.
The game was won by the excellent bowling by both the Sam's we all thought.

So we beat the holders and we had to play last years runners up in the final.
They were called Top Gun 6 and we had plans of making them runners up all over again.

We batted 1st again and Dan Blatch and Sam Palmer were asked by Mr Chapman to open.
Mr Palmer and Mr Blatch put on about 20 odd in 2 overs, Couple of Fours and one massive six over cow corner from Mr Palmer. Sam Palmer was caught on the last ball of the 2nd over for about 10. Mr Nowlan then came in on the start of the 3rd over and hit the Top Gun Skipper for 4,4,6,4 and then was bowled out. 18 off 5 balls!!! All hit straight over his head. Mr Chapman came in and Mr Blatch was bowled on the 1st ball of the 4th over after hitting a couple of fours in his 15. Mr Chapman hit the gaps and ran 2's with Mr Wood and the odd four and got us up to 64. Which we believe was the highest score of the day. We had a good chance if we bowled like we did in the last game. S. Palmer bowled another exceptional over and got a wicket. S. Nowlan got another wicket in an exceptional over. They couldn't hit boundaries which was the problem and the pressure built up from good bowling and fielding. D. Blatch bowled a reasonable over which got a wicket and went for one four. C. Wood bowled like lightning and full and beat the bat for pace and got another wicket without conceding a boundary, then C. White finished it up with another tidy over to get the job done. The bowlers did what was required of them, bowled tight and didn't bowl a single extra in the final game.
A mention should go to Mr Chapman for an excellent display of wicket keeping and captaincy with only one blemish of a hard catching chance in the 1st game.

We beat top gun by 30 runs to win the day!!!!! Well done Lads!

On a wet wicket Ashton won the toss and chose to field.
Opening the bowling was C. White and L. Papworth. Chris picked up the first wicket which was that of the opening batsman D. Roy who was caught by N. Barnes for 9. After the first twelve overs came a change in the bowling attack. J. Ray and N. Barnes took apart the middle order. John picked up the wickets of A. Horley who was caught by N. Barnes for 22 and J. Aitken caught by S. Nowlan for 19. Nigel picked up the wickets of C. Ferguson who was bowled for 0, D. Whitehead who was caught by R. Awdry for 0 and K. Avis who was bowled for 0. Nigel and John bowled their 8 overs straight through. S. Palmer and S. Nowlan were the new bowlers into the attack. S. Palmer picked up two wickets, J. Kahn who was caught and bowled for 0 and P. Whitehead who was caught by H. Williams for 8. S. Nowlan got himself a wicket too, bowling A. Ferguson for 0. The final wicket fell to a good bit of fielding, G. Palmer fielded the ball and threw at the non strikers stumps, the batsman ( P. Aitken) was too far out of his ground and was run out with the direct hit. That brought B.T.C.C innings to an end 77 all out off 34.3 overs.

After a lovely tea B.T.C.C. took to the field and R. Awdry and M. Papworth opened the batting for Ashton. Things started alright but Marcus was then given out caught behind for just 2. G. Palmer was the new man at the crease but soon he was headed back to the pavillion being bowled for 0. S. Nowlan the new man at the crease was dropped on 0 and ran through for a single. But soon Sam was caught for 6. S. Palmer was the new man in. Richard was had batted well for his 23 but was caught off the bowilng of P. Whitehead, which was his 4th wicket of the game. H. Chapman joined Sam in the middle. But Sam was soon caught for 7. The score at 40 for 5 off 18. L. Papworth joined Harry at the crease. With plenty of overs remaining they played steady and just picked off the runs when they were available. But Lloyd was then caught for 0. The score at 45 for 6. C. White was the new man at the crease, who was off the mark with an inside edge that ran away for 4. Harry was then caught and bowled getting a leading edge that popped back to the bowler and he was gone for 8. N. Barnes joined Chris at the crease. Nigel and Chris saw the team through to victory. Chris finishing on 18 not out and Nigel on 10 not out. Ashton's total 81 for 7 off 30 overs.

Ashton Wold opened the batting at Woodlands with C. Evans and H. Chapman. Both looked good until Harry was caught at slip for just 8. S. Nowlan was the replacement. Sam and Clive pushed the score along before Sam was caught for 12. Next man in was R. Awdry who batted well with Clive and remained with Clive to see him through his 50 and then saw him being caught on the boundary for 70. The score at 128 for 3 off 28 overs. D. Blatch now joined R. Awdry at the crease. Dan scored at quick 19 which included at straight 6 before he was caught and bowled by Buckingham.
J. Firth was the new man at the crease with the score at 166 for 4 off 35 overs. Jeremy scored 12 before he was run out. C. Wood saw out the remaining 4 balls without scoring. Ashton's total score 187 for 5 off 40 overs.

After tea down at the Royal Oak Ashton opened the bowling attack with C. White and D. Heath. Both bowled well without much luck. After 4 overs from D. Heath he was replaced by C. Fox. Chris Fox made the first breakthrough bowling the opener D. Sweary for 2. Chris White bowled his 8 overs straight through without any luck. Chris Wood replaced Chris White again another bowler that bowler well without luck. C. Fox was replaced by C. Thompson. Carl picked up at wicket with his thrid ball. The score at 51 for 2 off 22 overs. D. Heath came back into the attack and picked up a hat trick in his first over back, bowling 2 batsman and the third was out LBW. Carl picked up another 2 wickets, Doug picked up a fourth and Chris Wood picked up 2 to finished off the innings and wrapped up another win for Ashton. Bretton's total 119 all out off 38.1 overs.

Ashton batted first and opening the batting was H. Chapman and M. Papworth. Both started well and made a partnership of 47, including a 6 from M. Papworth, before Marcus was caught behind for 16 in the 20th over. The new batsman was H. Davies who was caught for 0 just a couple of overs later with the score at 51. Harry was continuing to bat well and was joined by S. Nowlan. They pushed the score on to 57 before Sam was out for 2 bowled by S. Jones. The next batsman to join Harry was S. Palmer. Sam got straight into business with his second scoring shot going for 6. Harry and Sam pushed the score on to 118 for 4 before Harry was given LBW for 45 off the bowling of Scott. S. Palmers new partner was D. Blatch. Sam made his second 50 in as many games. Dan was the next victim and was bowled by Scott for 18. New man in was N. Barnes, he joined Sam in the middle and they saw off the remaining 9 balls of the innings. Nigel finished on 2 not out and Sam on 88 not out consisting of five 6's and eight 4's. Total score 187 for 5 off 40 overs.

After tea it was Uppingham's turn to bat and after the 5th over they were 5 for 2 thanks to C. White and N. Barnes who both bowled the opening pair for 0. Nigel picked his wicket up with his very first ball in the second over of the game. In the 8th over N. Barnes picked up his second wicket of the game C. Scott was caught by H. Davies for 1. The score now at 8 for 3 off 8 overs. Chris and Nigel continued to bowl well but without any further luck. After the opening bowlers finished their allotted overs the score was 19 for 3 off 16 overs. The new bowlers were J. Ray and C. Thompson. Both bowled well and picked up wickets. C. Thompson had J. Norton caught for 12 by S. Palmer and D. Stewardson was also caught off the bowling from Carl but this time it was caught by M. Papworth for 1. John Ray picked up his 30th wicket of the season which was the wicket of S. Jones caught by M. Taylor for 38. Once these two had bowled out their overs the score was at 81 for 6 off 32 overs. The new bowlers were S. Palmer and D. Blatch. Sam picked up the wicket of P. Hern who was caught by C. White for 17 in Sam's first over. That was the last wicket to fall, the score at 89 for 7 off 33. M. Norton and B. Clarke saw out the remaining overs and M. Norton finished on 22 not out and B. Opening the bowling was C. Wood and D. Heath. Both bowled well and Chris picked up the wicket of A. Smith who gloved a delivery to J. Ray at slip for 11. A change of bowlers slowed down the run rate and picked up a couple of wickets. The new bowlers were S. Palmer and C. White. Chris picked up the wicket of C. Hart who had already been dropped off Chris's bowling was caught by R. Awdry for 34. D. Blatch made sure he wasn't going to win the fielder of the year by dropping two catches in three balls from the same batsman off the bowling of C. White. C. White picked up another wicket which was caught by P. Lucas, K. Lane was the batsman out for 1. J. Ray and D. Blatch were the new bowlers who came in to the attack. John picked up 6 wickets in his spell and finished off the innings. The wickets he got were M, Jackson stumped by S. Nowlan for 42, J. Hughes caught by S. Palmer for 14, G. Pearce bowled for 6, M. Ashton's top order were dismissed cheaply by the opening bowlers H. Blencowe and G. Pearce. P. Lucas caught for 1 off Blencowe's bowling, R. Awdry caught and bowled by Pearce for 5, G. Palmer caught for 1 off Pearce's bowling, S. Nowlan was caught too for just 4 off the bowling of Pearce. M. Buckley was bowled by Blencowe for 1. S. Palmer was the batsman to put up any resistance, D. Blatch also played sensibly but was given LBW off B. Mousley's bowling for 13. C. Wood scored 28 before he was caught off the bowling of R. Hart. Opening the bowling attack was C. White and D. Blatch, opening the Batting was R. Bray and L. Dalby. Chris and Dan both bowled well and both picked up a wicket, Chris got the wicket of R. Bray who was caught by H. Davies for just 9 and Dan got the wicket of L. Dalby caught by C. Gould for only 5. The new batsmen were C. Jones and G. Whitmore along with the new batsmen came a change in the bowling, with J. Ray and M. Davies coming into the attack. Martin picked up the the wickets of C. Jones bowled for 9 and G. Whitmore caught by C. Gould for 4. C. Thompson then came into the bowling attack along with H. Davies. Carl picked up four wickets, G. Swatland bowled for 7, B. Lapworth caught by S. Mark and Richard pushed the score on to 71 before Richard was caught for 19. Mark continued to bat well and was joined by D. Blatch who was out for 0 caught behind. G. Palmer was the new man in and he made 6 before being caught behind too. H. Chapman then joined M. Buckley in the middle. Mark was finally bowled for 47. S. Palmer was the new batsman. Harry and Sam were going along alright until Harry was caught behind for 17. The score at 155 for 7 off 33overs. 7 overs left and 46 runs required for the win. C. White was the new man to join S. Palmer at the crease. C. White didn't last long and was out to the first ball he faced and was caught for 0. H. Williams now joined Sam in the middle. Harry was caught for just 1 leaving Sam to be joined by the 11th man W. Platt who was bowled for 0. Sam on 19 not out and the team 16 runs short of victory. Total score 185 all out off 36.3 overs.

On a very hot day Ashton lost the toss and were made to field in their first timed game of the season (max of 42 over for the first batting team).

Opening the bowling attack was C. Wood and C. White. Both bowling well without much luck, until the 14th over when Chris White picked up the wicket of C. Hunt for 30 caught by C. Evans, the score at 49 for 1 off 14 overs. C. Wood was replaced by C. Thompson after just 5 overs of his allotted overs. C. White was replaced by C. Evans after 7 overs of his allotted overs. In the 21st over J. Smith was run out for 30. The score now at 75 for 2 off 21 overs. With D. Blatch now in the attack along side C. Evans it wasn't long before the next wicket was picked up. In the 30th over C. White was able to return the earlier favour to Clive and took a catch off his bowling to take the third wicket of the innings N. Smith dismissed for 7. With everyone bowling and fielding well the next wicket soon fell. C. Thomson taking the wicket of C. Ford who was caught behind by H. Williams for 6, the score now at 124 for 4 off 33 overs. Last over of the innings it was C. White with the ball in hand. With a change of field placements H. Chapman who hadn't done much in the field for most of the game was straight into the action and run out R. Hadley with a direct hit for 5 and with the last ball of the innings C. White picked up his second wicket of the game, C. Fellows bowled for 0. Mossdale's final score 166 for 7 off 42 overs.

After tea it was Ashton's turn to bat. Chasing a score of 167 off 38 overs to win. C. Evans and H. Chapman opened the batting and batted very well a partnership of 99 before Harry was stumped off the bowling of G. Smith for 46 in the 21st over. C. Mills was the new batsman. Cliff managed to score 12 runs before being run out. Mean while Clive had made his fifty and was batting well. The new batsman was R. Mason who joined C. Evans in the middle. Ryan scored a single and was then caught and bowled by G. Smith. The score at 128 for 3 off 28. M. Slote now joined C. Evans at the crease. Melvin was then bowled by J. Smith for 3. D. Blatch scored a quick 17 before being caught and bowled by J. Smith. With the score at 160 for 5 off 35 overs C. Wood went out to bat with the team needing just 7 runs form three overs to win. These were quickly got and Clive finished on 80 not out and Chris Wood finished on 5 not out. Final score 169 for 5 off 36.4 overs.

Ashton lost the toss and were put into bat.
The wicket was very much a batsman's wicket and a lightening fast out field. H. Chapman and R. Awdry opened the batting and were scoring steadily until Richard was bowled by Walker for just 10 in the 7th over. The new batsman to the crease was M. Buckley. Harry and Mark batted very well, mark making the most of being dropped four times. These two put on a partnership of 113 before Harry was run out for 78. The new batsman was M. Papworth who only scored 3 before being run out by a direct hit from the fielder. S. Nowlan didn't last long either who was dropped off his first strike of the ball which he rang a single on another single was taken so Sam was back on strike and was bowled by McNally for just 1. D. Blatch then joined M. Buckley out in the middle. Mark was finally caught on the fifth attempted by Nicholson off the bowling of T. Cooper for 83. M. Taylor then joined Dan in the middle. Malcolm was then out for a duck LBW by T. Cooper. C. Wood then joined D. Blatch in the middle. These two saw off the remaining balls of the innings Chris finished on 3 not out and Dan on 14 not out. Final score 207 for 6 off 40 overs.

The opening partnership lasted until the tenth over after a change of bowling. J. Ray took the wicket of C. Nicholson who was caught by M. Papworth for 24. The score now at 52 for 1 off 10. Bowling for the other end at the same time was C. White. Both John and Chris bowled well. Chris bowled 6 overs without any luck and was replaced by D. Blatch. Dan then took the wicket of the opening batsman S. Neville who was caught and bowled for 36. John then took his second wicket, bowled S. Fowler for 0. D. Heath then came back into the attack once J. Ray had finished his spell. Doug's second spell was good but again he failed to take any wickets. Dan bowling from the other end continued to take the wickets of the opposition's batsmen (K. Teahan bowled for 16, G. Small bowled for 1 and J. Buckman bowled for 0). C. Wood picked up the wicket of T. Cooper bowled for 30 in his second spell. C. White returned to the action for the last 2 overs of his allotted overs. Chris White picked up the wickets of T. McNally bowled for 11, S. Russell caught by H. Chapman at cover (a diving one handed catch) for 2 and S. Walker caught by M. Buckley at square leg for 0. Total score 157 all out off 39 overs.

Ashton Won the toss and elected to field.

Opening the bowling for Ashton was C. White and N. Barnes, both bowled well but without any luck. The opening batsmen were keeping the score ticking over slowly off the first 10 overs they were 18 without loss. Chris bowled 5 overs of his allotted overs and then L. Papworth replaced him. Once Lloyd sorted his rhythm out he bowled well and made the first break through T. Bindley was caught by C. White for 6. Nigel had finished his spell of 8 overs for just ten runs and was replaced by J. Ray. Lloyd then took the next wicket to fall, he bowled A. Chappell for just 1. The score now at 31 for 2 off 17 overs. Mean while the opening bowler that remained was batting well. After yet another dropped catch for the season by the skipper D. Blatch, J. Ray took it upon himself to take the catch off of his own bowling to take the wicket of J. R. Thomas for 15. Lloyd finished his spell of 7 overs without taking any further wickets. Replacing him was A. Buckley. To start with A. Buckley struggled to get his length right, but once he found it he bowled well but unfortunately didn't take any wickets. D. Blatch took over from J. Ray at the other end and bowled well to take the wicket of M. Raja caught by L Papworth for 20. C. White returned to the action with the score at 109 for 3 off 34 overs. In C. White's first over back the opening batsman, M. Guy, that was still there took a suicidal run and was run out for 60 by the wicket keeper S. Nowlan. Dan in the final over, had G. Dalby LBW for 8 and S. Martin caught by R. Awdry for 0. Final score for Wigston St. James 132 for 7 off 40 overs.

Ashton's reply to the 132 was to open with C. Evans and R. Awdry. Both batted very well Clive reached his fifty followed by Richard getting his fifty. Unfortunatley the next ball Richard was bowled by M. Guy. The new batsman was J. Firth and only 6 runs required for the win and 11 overs to do it in. It only took Jeremy and Clive one more over to do it in. Clive finished on 71 not out and Jeremy on 3 not out. Ashton's final score 136 for 1 off 30 overs.

Ashton Wold won the toss and chose to bat.
Opening the batting was R. Awdry and H. Chapman, things started well with both batsmen scoring. The opening bowlers Hill and Scrivens keeping things tight made it difficult for the batsmen to score easily. After ten over the score was at 24 for no loss of wicket. Two new bowlers came into the attack to try and make a breakthrough, they were Hartwell and S. Suffolk. S. Suffolk was the one to make the first breakthrough, Harry was caught off of his bowling for 13. That making the score 29 for 1 at the end of the 12th over. The following over saw Richard being caught off the bowling of Hartwell for 15. Now with two new batsmen at the crease what could G. Palmer and M. Buckley do? these two batsmen struggled to get any momentum going and soon the wicket of Gerald fell, caught of the bowling of S. Suffolk for 6. The following over saw Hartwell pick his second wicket of the game too, taking the wicket of Mark who was bowled for 5. M. Papworth was the batsman the replaced Gerald the previous over he was now batting with another new batsman in the form of D. Blatch. Marcus was caught off the bowling of T. Sperry for 4. The new batsman was S. Palmer. The score at 58 for 5 off 25. A very low total was looking the outcome of the innings but Sam and Dan soon made the total to look better by piling on the runs in a 48 run partnership in just 6 overs. Before Sam was bowled by J. Suffolk for 28. The score now 106 for 6 off 31 overs. With 9 overs left a score of 150 was looking good, but quick wickets fell, Dan for 35 caught by Scrivens off the bowling of Hill for 35, two balls later C. White was bowled for 0 by Hill. Shortly followed by N. Barnes who was also out for 0 bowled by S. Suffolk. With just the one wicket left the innings was soon over as H. Williams was bowled by Hill for 1 which just left J. Ray on 0 not out with no one left to bat with. Ashton's final score 122 all out off 34.3 overs.

With only a total of 122 for Ashton's bowlers to defend they knew they would have to bowl well and keep things tight. Opening the bowling was J. Ray and N. Barnes. Both bowled very well and didn't give away many runs. After 16 overs the score was at 18 for 1, with Nigel picking up the wicket of A. Merryweather LBW for 8. Then two new bowlers came into the attack, C. White and S. Palmer. Both bowled well and Sam picked up the wicket of D. Speight bowled for 8. Eight overs later the score was 38 for 3 off 24. Chris picking up the other wicket to have fallen which was the wicket of A. Holmes bowled for 4. D. Blatch replaced C. White and S. Palmer continued. Sam bowled 6 overs well for just the 1 wicket. Dan had picked up the wicket of S. Suffolk bowled for 28. M. Papworth replaced Sam for a couple of overs then C. White came back into the attack . The score now at 84 for 4 off 32, just 8 overs left and 6 wickets left for the batting team and 39 runs needed for the win. Chris took 5 wickets in his second spell of 4 overs (J. Hartwell bowled for 29, S. Hill caught by M. Papworth for 4, N. Dent LBW 0, C. Lewin bowled 0) With one over left and one wicket Braunstone needed 19 runs to win. Dan took the last wicket with the last ball of the innings, J. Suffolk bowled for 1. T. Sperry finished on 10 not out. Final score 107 all out off 40 overs.

The opening partnership of R. Awdry and S. Nowlan didn't last long with Richard being bowled for 0 with the first ball of the second over, the first he'd faced. The new batsman was C. Evans, the new partnership looked to be going well until Sam was caught for just 5 in the 6th over. This fall of wicket brought H. Chapman to the crease to join Clive in the attack. Harry played a back up roll for Clive giving him the strike where ever possible. Unfortunately after 13 overs Harry was caught behind for just 5. With the score at 43 for 3 off 19 overs. Clive was scoring well, his new batting partner was M. Buckley. With Mark and Clive in the middle the scoring started to pick up and soon the score was on 65 for 3 off 25 overs. In the 26th over Clive was caught for 43. The new batsman was the skipper D. Blatch. Dan tried to get the score going by hitting a four but he was then caught. Next to bat was young M. Papworth. Marcus and Mark batted well together, Marcus hitting his 2nd six of the season over square leg. Mark was bowled in he 38th over just four short of his half century. New batsman was C. White. The score at 126 for 6 off 38 overs. Next to fall was Marcus who was bowled for 21. The new batsman to walk out with just 5 balls to go was N. Barnes. Nigel was quickly off the mark with a single. C. White was then caught for just 1, with just two ball remaining L. Papworth walked out to the middle. Ashton's final score was 134 for 8 off 40 overs. Old. Papworth was the other bowler. Lloyd bowled the best figures of his life, picking up 4 wickets, ( L. Harrison Bowled 0, J. Howitt Caught behind 0, J. Roberts bowled 22 and Griffin caught by S. Nowlan for 0). D. Blatch also picked up 2 wickets, the wickets of F. Whitelam caught by C. White for 17 and P. Harrison-Wild caught by R. Awdry for 3. S. Nowlan picked up the last wicket with his third ball, J. Bailey caught by L. Papworth for 0. Old Wyveraians final score 73 all out off 36.3 overs.

Damp day and Sunday Skipper Harry Chapman won the toss and bowled.
Chris Wood and Lloyd Papworth opened the bowling Chris bowled one of the Opening batsmen then quickly bowled the No.3 and finished his 1st spell of 6 overs 2-21. Lloyd bowled well the other end but with no luck and bowled 5 overs for 27. Nigel Barnes replace Lloyd and bowled superbly in his 8 overs 1-19 and restored some control as the Upwood batsmen seemed to be scoring freely. Dan Blatch replaced Chris and bowled a 6 over spell for 27 and took the wicket of the other opening Batsmen which was due mainly to Nigel bowling well and creating pressure at the other end. After Nigel and Dan had had a go Harry turn to the spin bowling department of Drew Buckley and Jack Allen who toiled away but runs were scored steadily and only 1 wicket taken by Jack and then after Dan bowling one over for 5 runs due to bowling restrictions, Harry brought on the opening bowlers again to finish up the Innings. Chris & Lloyd bowled exceptionally well and they both took a wicket and helped keep Upwood to 195-7 in 40 overs. 2 of the Upwood batsmen got 20`s and 3 of them got 30`s. Ashton's Bowling ~ C. After a very nice tea Skipper Harry Chapman and fellow opening batsmen Richard Awdry walked out to start of the Innings. Rich did what he normally does and went after anything wide of the stumps from the word go! He belted a four through cover from the very first ball of the Ashton Wold Innings. Rich continued in this manner until he was bowled for 23. Sam Nowlan joined Harry and was only in for a short stay, after hitting a six over cover he got a short one which he top edged to square for 7. Marcus Papworth joined Harry and they proceeded to build up a partnership. When Harry was judged LBW, for 44, to the quickest of the Upwood bowlers M.Page they had taken Ashton to 139 and 5 runs an over was needed to get the win. At number 5 was Dan Blatch who watched Marcus take on the quick bowler and advance his score to 33 well made runs before he was caught at mid off. With Drew Buckley joining Dan at the crease Dan decided to get the score moving and belted a straight six and then was caught at square going for a sweep shot the following ball for 15. This left 2 new batsmen at the crease who hadn't faced a ball and the Middle order collapse was followed by a lower order collapse as Drew was caught at mid off for a duck and Jack Allen also got a duck caught by the wicket keeper.
Lloyd soon followed for a single figure score and then Chris Wood and Harry ( Batsmen of the year 2005 & 2006) Williams, the number 11 due to his long standing wrist injury found themselves at the crease with a few overs to spare and ruffly 20 runs needed. Chris quickly got himself 11 runs before Harry was run out for 2 with only 2 balls remaining, Ashton Wold were all out 8 runs short of the Target of 195. M.Page bowled well against Ashton Wold and picked up figure of 5-18, He and the young spin bowler Sayer took 7 wickets between them and can count themselves responsible for sealing the win for Upwood. Upwood bowling ~ J. Milner 1-35 off 8, M. Drage 1-23 off 6, R. Mitchell 0-10 off 4, Bower 0-21 off 4, R. Sayer 2-34 off 8, M. Page 5-18 off 5.4.

Ashton won the toss and elected to bat.

Opening the batting was S. Nowlan and H. Chapman. Things started looking good but then Harry Chapman was caught by Lyle for just 7 off the bowling of I. Robinson. Harry's departure brought R. Awdry to the crease. Richard and Sam batted well together putting on plenty of runs. Sam was living dangerously and was getting away with it. Both Richard and Sam were approaching their 50's when Richard was caught by Lyle for 42 off the bowling of A. Reid. Joining S. Nowlan in the middle was his dad D. Nowlan who was playing in his first game of the season. He batted well with Sam and saw Sam get dropped on 48 and then making his fifty shortly after. Dean batted well too finally making 41 before being trapped LBW by M. Hurcombe. Sam finally ran out of lives around the same time his dad was out and was caught by Lyle off the bowling of M. Hurcombe for 81, his highest score for Ashton. The two new batsman only in for a few overs, D. Blatch and S. Palmer didn't take long to race the score forward towards the final total of 292. Dan finished on 31 not out and Sam needed nine runs off the last over to make his fifty he got to 48 and needed 2 off the last ball but unfortunately he missed the ball and finished on 48 not out. Ashton's final total was 292 for 4 off 40 overs.
Duddington's bowling ~ I. Robinson 1-66 off 8,M. Hurcombe 2-48 off 8, T. Cramp 0-23 off 4, A. Reid 1-56 off 8, P. Blatch 0-63 off 8, G. Packer 0-18 off 4.

Duddington started ok but soon wickets started falling. The opening bowlers were C. White and R. Calaby. The wicket of P. Lungden was the first to fall for 12, he was bowled by C. White. Next to fall was T. Cramp who was caught for 0 by S. Nowlan off the bowling of C. White. R. Calaby was replaced with N. Barnes who soon joined in the wicket taking, taking the wicket of M. Hurcombe for 15. C. White finished his 8 overs picking up a further two wickets both bowled, the victims were A. Reid for 0 and K. Robinson for 0. N. Barnes finished up taking 4 wickets too, and finished off the 9 man team that Duddington had brought, taking the wickets of G. Packer caught for 4 by S. Palmer, P. Blatch caught for 22 by D. Nowlan and P. Lyle was caught and bowled by N. Barnes. Dudding were bowled out for just 77.

After Saturday's success Ashton opened with the same pair, R. Awdry and H. Chapman. Things started well with both players scoring runs. But unfortunately in the 7th over Harry was run out for just 9.The score at 23 for 1 off 7 overs. This then brought together Richard and Mark Buckley. Mark was dropped on 0 by the wicket keeper. The pair of them batted very well together, scoring freely. But in the 19th over Richard was bowled for 36. The score then at 89 for 2 off 19. This brought D. Blatch to the crease. Mark continued to bat well and finally made his second fifty of the weekend before he was out LBW for 56 by Hussain. As for Dan he was having fun eventually reaching his fifty, which was not the most elegant of fifties to ever been scored. C. Mills was the batsman that was in the middle with D. Blatch when he reached his fifty. Cliff Batted very well and was just keeping the score ticking over and giving the strike to Dan. Dan was finally run out for 76 in the last over. This brought C. Gould to the crease, who score a quick 7 not out off a few balls. Cliff finished on 22 not out. The final Score was 225 for 4 off 40 overs.

As the teams went in for tea the heavens opened and it rained hard for a good hour and that unfortunately put an end to the game.

Ashton won the toss and elected to bat.

H. Chapman and R. Awdry opened the batting and batted well, scoring freely and quickly. Soon the score was 55 off 10 over with no loss of wicket. They continued to bat very well together, Richard making his fifty in the process, but unfortunately in the 19th over Harry Chapman was caught by H. Davis off the bowling of his father M. Davis. Harry was out for 35, M. Buckley joined Richard Awdry at the crease. In the following over Richard was caught for 59 off the bowling of C. Thompson. This brought M. Slote to the middle. Melvin Slote was bowled in C. Thompson following over for just 1. Meanwhile Mark Buckley was scoring well. M. Slote's departure brought J. Firth to the crease, unfortunately Jeremy Firth was caught very well at first slip by M. Green off the bowling of Thompson. The new batsman was R. Calaby, with both Rob and Mark batting well, Rob was run out by a good bit of fielding by the sub fielder (who was only on whilst the wicket keeper went off to put some strapping on his bad knee). D. Ward was the new batsman, whislst batting with Dia, Mark hit a six to bring up his fifty, but the following ball he tried the same thing and was caught for 54 off H. Davis. The score at 189 for 6 off 34 overs. No more wickets were lost D. Ward and C. Evans, the batsman replacing Mark, saw the overs out and the final score was 216 for 6 off 40 overs. After tea Ashton started their attack on the Tolethorpe batsmen. Opening the bowling was C. White and J. Ray, both bowled well with out much luck, C. White picked up the wicket of M. Bolton who was caught by H. Williams the wicket keeper fro 14. With 9 overs down the score was 22 for 1. In the tenth over A. Brown was run out for 6. The Tolethorpe batsmen struggled to score many runs at all. C. Evans picked up th wicket of M. Davies for 11 caught by R. Awdry. M. Buckley bowled well to back up his fifty and picked up the wicket of M. Bellamy who was caught by H. Williams for 0, Mark also got a run out with a direct hit from the boundary to run the Tolethorpe skipper out for 22. R. Awdry also bowled well to back up his fifty picking up 2 wickets in the process, H. Davis bowled for 1 and J. Green bowled for 10. M. Slote bowled very well too and picked up 2 wickets, first one was caught and bowled which was the wicket of M. Davis for 13 and the final wicket to fall was the wicket of T.
